School Profile

Mossfiel Primary School is situated in the established area of Hoppers Crossing, 30km west of Melbourne. The school has been proudly serving the local community since 1970. It is sited on safe and attractive grounds and is located  approximately 5 minutes from Werribee and 30 minutes from the Melbourne CBD, using the Princes Highway and Westgate Freeway. The school colours are bottle green and gold. Our logo is based upon the handsome Red River Gum of the Werribee River Valley. Starting with its roots in the book of knowledge, the river gum shows vigorous growth in its youth, flourishing maturity and a robust long life. 

Our student enrolment is around 390 children from Foundation year to Year 6. Over the last 8 years we have introduced new teaching strategies including coaching to best meet the learning needs of our diverse student group.

Our main aim in the early years is to establish foundation skills necessary for further learning. The development of literacy and numeracy skills is of prime importance. We expect that all children will establish, to the best of their ability, the skills essential for success. Students are provided with a friendly learning environment that promotes independence, excellence and getting along with each other.

Our School expectations are THINK RESILIENCE, THINK COMMUNITY, THINK RESPECT and THINK EXCELLENCE. The development of appropriate inter-personal and personal skills is also very important and we work effectively with our families to strengthen the children’s social development.

Students from Foundation to Year 6 use their iPads as a routine tool in learning. This resources is supported by Apple TV’s in the classroom and Interactive Whiteboards in 10 classrooms. The school has a number of banks of Netbooks throughout the school for student use and every classroom has Desktop Computers to support student learning. Our library and eLC room has a number of desktop for teaching of computer skills.

Experienced enthusiastic teachers operate as a team, supporting each other and effectively taking up school responsibilities and initiatives.  We are committed to skilling our teachers in contemporary practices.  We are well resourced.  Our school has a dedicated eLearning Centre and a separate library, there are computers in every classroom and the school is fully networked.  We have a netbook program for students and interactive whiteboards in many classrooms.  The school is actively supported by School Council, Parents and Friends and parent helpers in the classroom.
